rouggyandClaude Opus 5 8b1dff581b feat(linux): the Go half of OpsLog builds for Linux
Measured rather than guessed: the whole repository was cross-compiled for
linux/amd64 and the gaps closed one by one. There were fewer than expected.

Flex and TCI were never Windows-specific — they carried //go:build windows by
inheritance and import nothing but net and gorilla/websocket. Untagged, no code
change. The two backends a Linux operator is most likely to own were already
portable.

Audio was 560 lines, not 2287: only devices.go and engine.go touch WASAPI, while
manager.go, recorder.go, wav.go and mp3.go were pure Go wearing the tag by
association. The whole platform surface is seven functions, now implemented a
second time on PulseAudio through github.com/jfreymuth/pulse — pure Go over the
server socket, so the no-cgo rule survives, and PipeWire answers the same
protocol. The fixed 16 kHz mono format and the server-side resampling mirror
what AUTOCONVERTPCM does on Windows, for the same reason.

OmniRig is the only real loss, and its backend still EXISTS off Windows rather
than being compiled out of app.go: a settings database is portable, so an
operator moving a profile across keeps "omnirig" saved and must be told to pick
a native backend instead of meeting a nil one.

The parts where Linux is not Windows, and where a compile-only stub would have
been a silent bug:

  - data dir: still beside the binary, but ~/.local/share/OpsLog/data when that
    folder belongs to the system — decided by trying the write, because /opt and
    /usr/local are writable on some stations and not others.
  - single instance: an flock, not a pid file. The kernel drops it however the
    process dies, so a crash leaves nothing to delete by hand. This is the guard
    that stops two instances fighting over the rig frequency.
  - update: simpler here. Unix renames over a running binary, so the deferred
    swap the Windows path needs a detached helper for is unreachable.
  - tasklist/taskkill become /proc and SIGTERM; the boot log moves out of /tmp,
    which is wiped exactly when the evidence is wanted.
  - serial ports sorted naturally: /dev/ttyUSB10 was landing between USB1 and
    USB2, the same trap COM10 fell into.

release.ps1 now cross-builds and vets for linux before it builds the exe, and
refuses the release if that fails — a port rots one unguarded x/sys/windows call
at a time.

Nothing has been executed on Linux yet: Wails needs webkit2gtk and cgo there, so
the binary must be built on Linux. scripts/linux-setup.sh checks the machine and
does it; BUILDING-LINUX.md is the manual version.

rouggy 0f082e1301 diag(audio): say why the Listening device is silent
"I turned the sound back on and nothing comes out of the speakers", with
a log that reports success at every step: the network audio stream up,
664-byte packets arriving, the monitor started. The render goroutine's
error was thrown away — a device unplugged, renamed by Windows or unable
to open at 16 kHz fails exactly there, silently.

It is logged now, with the device id. Two once-only lines either side of
it say whether the decoded audio is reaching a running monitor or
arriving with nobody listening, which separates a device fault from the
speakers simply being switched off.

rouggy e8b5444fc2 feat(icom): live microphone over the network — the last remote brick
The talk button learns the network road the voice keyer already took: when
To-radio is the radio itself, the microphone is captured and re-framed into
the rig's 320-sample packets, the capture callback serving as the clock — the
mic delivers in real time, so no ring and no pacer. Counters and the frame
remainder live on the audio stream, so a talk session spans calls. PTT keys
before and releases after, through the same code as the USB path.

With this, a network Icom is a complete remote station over three UDP ports:
RX audio to the headset, live voice and recorded messages back, CW through
the rig's keyer, CAT for everything else.

rouggy deeb654482 feat(tci): the voice keyer can send its messages through the radio
The radio now appears as a device in both audio lists — 'Radio (TCI
network audio)' — so the receive audio and the voice keyer can both take
the CAT link instead of a sound card. No virtual cable, no second card, no
Windows mixer between the recording and the air.

The transmit side reuses the exchange the tone probe established, with a
WAV in place of the sine: the radio asks, we answer with the next slice,
and it sets the pace. The message is converted once, up front, rather than
per frame — a voice message is a few hundred kilobytes, and resampling
inside a callback that has 21 ms to answer would put arithmetic on the
path where a late frame is a gap on the air.

The PTT is untouched by all this: the keyer keys before and unkeys after
exactly as it does with a sound card, so a transmission is bracketed by
the same code whichever way the audio travels. And the playback runs OFF
the CAT goroutine, since everything else about the rig goes through that
one place and a ten-second message would otherwise freeze the frequency
display and the antenna following for ten seconds.

Two refusals rather than silent failure. A radio that has gone away stops
being offered as a device at all, and a radio whose transmit audio source
is still the microphone is caught within a fifth of a second — a voice
keyer that transmits silence is worse than one that says why it will not.

rouggy 84b06ed47b fix: padlocks unclickable, From-radio level inert, callsign field too narrow
Padlocks. LockBtn was declared INSIDE the App component, so every render gave
React a new component type and the button was unmounted and rebuilt — about four
times a second while the CAT polls. It flickered under the pointer and swallowed
clicks, because the node being clicked no longer existed when the click landed.
The padlock now lives at module level and is passed its state.

From-radio level. It reached the QSO recorder and nothing else, so an operator
listening through OpsLog heard no difference between 10% and 150% — the control
was not weak, it was disconnected. It now scales the monitor too, applied on the
captured chunk so the network-fed path keeps its own levels, and a running
monitor picks up a change immediately: making someone restart the monitor to
hear the slider is how a working control gets reported as broken.

Callsign field widened to w-56, the room coming from the RST pair which never
needs more than five characters. It is the one field always typed into, it
carries the REC badges, and a long portable call has to stay readable.

rouggy 6d54100bc9 fix: a new playback raced the previous one for the audio device
Reported precisely: press play again and it stops the current message, but you
then have to wait the whole length of the message before it will play — otherwise
the radio is keyed and the PTT released at once.

Play only SIGNALLED the previous playback to stop and started a new one straight
away. The old goroutine still held the WASAPI render client for a moment, so the
new client could not start; it returned immediately and the PTT tail was all that
was left. The log now shows both halves of that: a play line, then a release
120 ms later.

Stopping now waits for the goroutine to have returned — the point of stopping
before starting again — bounded at 1.5 s so a wedged device cannot freeze the
operator's click, and saying so in the log if it ever comes to that.

rouggy 4fe5811fd2 fix: a playback that never starts no longer fails silently
From an operator's log, playing a recording on the air repeatedly:

  18:52:40.148 play → 18:52:48.420 PTT released   8.2 s, the whole take
  18:52:57.759 play → 18:52:57.879 PTT released   0.12 s, nothing came out

Those 120 ms are the PTT release tail alone: the render device refused to start
and playPCM returned an error that was thrown away. The call reported success
every time, which is what "it plays once and then never again" looks like from
the outside — and why the search went to the recorder, which was innocent.

The error is now logged with the device name.

rouggy 67a03c3ddc feat: a level control for the voice keyer, and name every CAT backend in its PTT list
The messages went to the radio exactly as recorded. Nothing in OpsLog could
raise them, so a microphone captured quietly drove the rig quietly and the only
remedies were the radio's own USB input menu or the Windows mixer — which is
where the operator was heading. There is now a level from 10 to 400 %, applied
with clamping (a wrap would turn loud speech into noise on the air), and Play
previews at that same level so the adjustment is made against what will actually
be transmitted.

The PTT method list also named only OmniRig, Flex, Icom and TCI, so choosing a
native Yaesu left "CAT" with no backend beside it — which reads as "there is no
CAT PTT for my radio" and sends the operator to RTS on a COM port that has
nothing to do with the rig. Same list-needing-every-member shape as three
earlier bugs in this feature. The TestPTT log line had the same rot: it said
"CAT via OmniRig" whatever backend was running.
